Is anyone playing it? Is it worth it?
How are the rules?

The rules are good. The basics of combat/movement are similar to Uncharted Seas, if you are familiar with Spartan's other game. The rest of the rules are nice, and they include ship design rules, ala GW's old V.D.R. This allows for you to further customize your fleets, and even design giant leviathan ships, which you will have to make yourself. With all of the rules, the game seems to be easily adapted to a campaign system (which we are going to do shortly at Miniature Market).

Wulfen pointed out that in addition to new orbital defense stations coming out at GenCon, Spartan is also creating an add on game, for planetfall combat. All of the new pieces/rules coming down the pipeline should breathe some new life into the game, so I recommend checking it out.

I bought into the game early on and was very excited about it, but still haven't managed to get a game in. The Spartan website has a couple of documents modifying/explaining the rules. The rules are relatively straight forward, but Spartan hasn't been the best about clearly writing rules or play-testing stuff very well before release. Pretty much the entire Uncharted Seas book is now worthless because of several rules re-writes, and several (as in multiple times to the same model) revisions of model statistics. I still want to play and I am interested in the planetary combat game.

Several of us plan on getting a demo of Firestorm: Invasion at Gencon. That's the ground combat version of the game. I am all over 6mm sci-fi combat. :drool

I'll probably get into Armada when MM starts up their campaign in a few weeks. I was leaning very strongly towards Terrans, but now I'm looking at Aquans too, since I understand they're under-represented locally. Decisions, decisions.

Very pumped about playing this, especially after reading about the Firestorm Invasion tidbits. Should go very well with campaigns.

Of which I, as the mighty Sorylians, will sweep away. :P

I have Terrans and Sorylians. I think you're right Brasidas, the Aquans are woefully under-represented, I don't know of anyone claiming to play them. I was considering getting the Relthoza fleet, but was unsure if I wanted to sink money into another fleet if I was never going to play. I did get the defense station the other day. It's pretty cool, I've got it together but not primed or anything. I plan on participating in the campaign as well.

If I'm going to play the Aquans, I really need to work on my Admiral Akbar voice impressions.

Is that the 3rd Family Guy Star Wars movie? They're pumping them out faster than Lucas ever could.

Anyone happen to have an extra fleet for this game, I would really like to demo the game before I invest in a fleet. If so, could we work out a time to get a small game so I can see how it plays.

I have Terrans and Sorylians. I'll volunteer, even though it won't exactly be a demo since I've never played the game either. It can be a joint learning session.

If anyone is interested, lostprophet and I will be demoing Firestorm Armada at Miniature Market on Thursday evening, 8/26.
